Artist Biography – Margret R. Courtney
Margret R. Courtney is a painter, working in oils, acrylics and pastels. She also creates mixed media/collage art using acrylic paint, paper and various objects. Margret is inspired by nature; she likes to hike, watch birds, garden and just be outdoors. These contribute greatly to the creation of her work.
Margret graduated Buffalo State College with a Bachelor of Science degree in Design (with a concentration in Illustration) in 1984. Much of the course work included fine art classes. Margret pursued a career in graphic design, but continued to do fine art as she had the time. She began taking drawing and painting classes at the Middletown Arts Center in 1997. While there, she experimented with different techniques and mediums and her style transitioned from detailed to more abstract.
Margret has participated in juried art exhibitions throughout the Cincinnati, OH area. These include shows at the The Mohawk Gallery, Middletown Arts Center, the Evendale Fine Art Show, the Hyde Park Square Art Show and the Art Affaire in Milford. Margret won the first place painting award for her “Crick or Creek” landscape at the Middletown Arts Center. She showed three paintings in the “Spirit of Place” exhibit at Gallery South, and two paintings in the “Spark” summer exhibit at the Kennedy Heights Arts Center, both located in Cincinnati. She participated in Petcasso 2015, an art show and sale benefiting Pets in Need of Greater Cincinnati. Currently, Margret currently has her divinely inspired painting, “White As Snow”, on exhibit at The Mohawk Gallery in Cincinnati.
Margret was born in Buffalo, NY and has been living and working in the Cincinnati, OH area for 28 years. She currently resides in Lebanon, OH where she creates her art and produces prints and note cards of her work in her home studio.
